Visit Onomichi, Hiroshima

Speaking of Hiroshima, the first impression that comes to mind are the ruins and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park of World War II, and not forgetting the Itsukushima Shrine which is the symbol of Miyajima. As for today, I am going to introduce to you the infamous streets in Onomichi.

Onomichi is a small town which is facing the Seto Inland Sea; it is famous for its maritime logistics center that has been there since ancient time. Due to its position (facing the sea with mountains as the backdrop), the ground area is relatively small, hence the residential units and monasteries are very close to each other, forming a narrow and incline roads. This unique scenery is often used as filming venues, “The Girl who Leapt through Time” was taken here as well. At that time, I was working at a café near Hiroshima, hence I took the opportunity to visit Onomichi. My Japanese colleague recommended the cable car at the Senkoji Temple, where you can overlook the entire Onomichi view at a higher position. I went to the JR Onomichi Station which is a 15 minutes walking distance from the cable car station. The cable car comes every 15 minutes, the current one-way fare cost 320 Yen, a return fare cost 500 Yen. Even though it is cheaper to buy the return ticket, I would still recommend you to take the cable car up the hill and walk your way down.

Onomichi was not only famous for its incline roads, you will able to find cats on the road easily, hence the street is named Cat’s Street, a must-go for those cat lovers!
Even though I didn’t get to try the Onomichi ramen, but I did get to try the unique dessert from Onomichi – ice-cream biscuits. 。 Exif_JPEG_PICTURE Exif_JPEG_PICTURE
